so, yeah, lee myung-bak of the grand national party is going to be the next president of the republic of korea—no big surprise.

here's the breakdown of votes for the right-wing candidates:

lee myung-bak (grand national party)
lee hoi-chang (independent)
huh kyoung-young (republican party)
chung kun-mo (true owner coalition)
chun kwan (chamsaram society full true act)
48.7%
15.1%
0.4%
0.1%
0.0%

and the leftist and centrist candidates:

chung dong-young (united new democratic party)
moon kook-hyun (creative korea party)
kwon young-ghil (democratic labour party)
rhee in-je (democratic party)
gemu min (korea socialist party)
26.1%
5.8%
3.0%
0.7%
0.1%

the u.n.d.p. took quite a beating—taking in only north and south jeolla provinces, and gwangju metropolitan city. they even lost in jeju. ouch.

the final bcs standings are in, with hawaii jumping up two spots, coming in at number ten! university of hawaii will be playing against university of georgia in the sugar bowl in new orleans on january 1st.

even if we don't beat georgia, i wouldn't think any less of our team. good enough already. if they did win this one last game, though, that'd just be icing on the cake.

hawaii beats washington (35-28)! what an intense game—i honestly thought that we were going to lose for a moment there. i haven't been this excited about sports since south korea beat spain at the 2002 world cup quarterfinals.

reasons why this game, and this whole season in general, was such a big deal, for those who are not in the know:

we had a perfect, undefeated season (12-0)—the first ever in the history of our football team.

in fact, we were the only college football team in the nation who didn't lose a single game this year.

in all likelyhood, we will go to our first ever bcs bowl game. (possibly against either louisiana state university or the university of georgia.)

we are the 2007 wac champions. (although, last week's game determined this one.)

congratulations to the warriors and to hawaii! it's amazing to see the entire state united like this—even if it lasts only for a moment.

and thanks for actually making this generally anti-sports guy get interested in american football for, at the very least, these last few weeks. i'll concede—american football, in terms of entertainment and excitement value, does have its merits.
